Facilities
Basic Overview
Since Camp Living Stones began in 1998, campers and staff have been working hard to make camp what it is today. Every building, walkway, and trail has been completed with the help of campers and staff who have poured countless hours of Christ’s love (and sweat) into every stairway, bench, stained board, and flower bed on our grounds. The impressive facilities found at Camp Living Stones provide the perfect picture of what can be accomplished when God’s people work together toward a common goal.
Camp Living Stones is situated on 70 acres on the side of Starr Mountain in beautiful East Tennessee. Located in the center of camp are the Dining Hall and Snack Shack. These buildings are positioned between the male and female cabins and serve as the central meeting place. Continue reading for more information about each building, and be sure to check out photos of our facilities located in the CLS Picture Albums.
Cabins
Three of our main cabins - Sandlewood, Ro Ridge, and Fireside - sleep 16 campers each. The upstairs of Stone Lodge house 20 campers. On each side, there are bunk beds and mattresses for your comfort as well as storage shelves between each set of bunk beds. In each of these cabins there are four sinks, four toilets, and four showers located inside the cabins. The central room, which separates the two sides, houses our summer counselors or adult chaperones during the off season. Our second guy’s cabin, Stone Lodge, is unique in that it has two levels. The top floor of Stone Lodge houses campers, while the lower floor serves as our “Family Cabin” for visiting couples or families. In our Family Cabin there is a sitting room at the entrance for leisure time, four bedrooms each containing a queen sized bed, and bathrooms on either side. Two of the rooms are family friendly with extra twin beds. Guests should bring their own bedding when staying at CLS. Total occupancy for all cabins (including Library) is 85 during the summer season and 95 during off-season months.

Dining
Hall
The Dining Hall is used for many purposes. The maximum
capacity is 100. This space can also be used as a conference
area or for worship services as it is equipped with a projector
and screen with laptop hook up. Our lobby area is a favorite
among campers with comfortable couch, traditional wood furniture,
and access to board games of all sorts. Our full sized industrial
kitchen is home to some of the best cookin’ this side of the
Mississippi. The front porch gives you a beautiful view of
the whole camp while relaxing in rocking chairs!
Chapel
It has been almost two years since we broke ground on the CLS Chapel. As many of you know most everything here at Camp Living Stones has been built by students and volunteers. If you are reading this there is a pretty good chance we are talking about you. Therefore it is no surprise that the largest most impressive building project in camps short history has taken this amount of time. We are very thankful for everyone’s involvement with the chapel from dirt work, grunt work, craftsmanship, and giving - both monetarily and voluntarily. It has not been easy building on the side of a mountain. But we fully anticipate utilizing the upstairs of the chapel in the summer of 2010 for worship service, maybe sooner. Thank you for all of your help and prayers in seeing this project to completion.
Camps fall 2009 work week proved to be quite productive for the chapel. Volunteers worked on the boardwalk railings, main entrance porch (cupola coming soon), gable ends, interior and exterior lighting, interior and exterior rock work, steps, plumbing, and the ceiling. The ceiling has recently been completed, we look forward to putting down the yellow pine flooring soon. After that the chapel will only lack a few big ticket items before it can be utilized. On the inside we need to finish up trim work, connect septic and water, complete the bathroom, install a sound system, purchase seating, and sometime down the road put in air conditioning.
If you would like to volunteer time, materials, or designate funds toward the completion of this project please contact the Camp Living Stones office at (423) 263-5060
(or click here: http://www.camplivingstones.com/partnership.php for our current wish list of items needed to complete the chapel)
Library
The “Library” has recently been renovated and no longer holds books, but instead serves as overflow housing for our groups. It has five bunk beds and two other beds and can sleep 12 guests. It also has a bathroom with two sinks, two toilets, and two showers.
Snack Shack
Although we do not sell snacks on the camp grounds,
our snack shack is full of ‘goodies’ you can purchase. Believe
it or not, this small building was formerly the ‘kitchen’
until the Dining Hall was finished only a few years ago. Campers
used to eat on the porch of the Snack Shack with the occasional
strong wind which created some classic CLS stories. The Snack
Shack is actually the camp store and office. Here you can
buy bumper stickers, t-shirts, water bottles, hats, and even
a CLS original music CD featuring past and present staff!
Additional
On-Site Features
Camp Living Stones has several trails all throughout the property. All trails have been hand hewn by campers and staff through the years. Trails will take you to the edge of camp property and along the activity sites. For example, our Rock Ceremony Trail is lined with stones individualized by students’ small groups throughout the years, and leads up to the outdoor worship center which has a beautiful view of Starr Mountain. There are also several fire circles around camp: for roasting marshmallows and worshipping together. The sand volleyball court is a favorite during free time. Occasionally all the campers and staff can be found gathered around the court as a tournament begins. Picnic tables for outside dining and games are found spaced throughout the main grounds. Also available to groups are the use of our “encouragram” mailboxes which can be used to write encouraging notes to fellow campers throughout the week. In addition, we have created a playing field where campers and staff can often be found playing Ultimate Frisbee and other competitive sports. Visitors can also enjoy our 18 hole mountain disc golf course located throughout campus. The ping-pong table in the dining hall is a big hit as well as the two carpet ball tables, the horseshoe throw, and ladder ball. The most recent addition to camp’s main area is our Ga Ga Ball court. Ga Ga is a traditional Jewish dodge ball game played inside an octagon-shaped arena which was donated by Fellowship church in Arkansas. It has quickly become a favorite activity among students. If you’d rather relax, you can hang out on the porch of the Dining Hall and watch others play as you spend time in the rocking chairs with a friend.
